Bear with me folks---I still have a question about how the FMC computes the fuel load. I was told that it calculates the amount of fuel needed for the trip (less wind effect)however, in some experimenting (having the tanks empty) no fuel figure was forthcoming.Am I misunderstanding and giving the FMC too much credit for being smart enough to figure how much gas I should put in the tanks?

Curtiss, Not quite, what the FMC is actually doing when you enter the ZFW is sensing how much fuel is onboard at the current time, subtracting the ZFW is shows up on the PERF page as "Sensed" and not how much is required.
