fmc and flight level

whenever i set up the fmc i always end up with .800/410 in the legs page for cruising waypoints, although i always specify a different crusing altitude in fmc,am i doing something wrong,i looked in maual but have i overlooked anything?everything is fine barring those entries?

No, you're not doing anything wrong. The numbers you're seeing are those recommended by the FMC but you don't have to follow them. If you set your Step Size to 0 (zero) instead of ICAO on the PERF INIT page, the numbers shown by the FMC will correspond to your cruise altitude.See page 28 of the FMC manual for an explanation of STEP SIZE and page 63 of the same manual for an explanation of what the small fonts (predicted altitude and speed) and large fonts (altitude and speed restrictions)shown on the FMC represent.
