October 3, 200223 yr Hi AllWhen I arm the autospoilers I've noticed they automatically retract, I think when I disengage reverse thrust. Does this happen in the real plane? I often watch aircraft at Heathrow and very often they still have spoilers deployed as they turn off the runway.ThanksPaul
October 3, 200223 yr Paul, they will retract if you add power (rejected landing protection) otherwise remain extended until the lever is returned to the down position.
October 3, 200223 yr Sounds like there is a faulty Auto Speedbrake Arming Switch!Did you notice if the spoilers came up when you touched down? Or did they come up only when you applied reverse thrust? For the technophiles....When the Speedbrake Lever is pulled up (out of the DOWN detent/slot) and back to the ARM position, a microswitch is activated (this is the "Auto Speedbrake Arming" Switch). If this fails to activate the Auto Speedbrakes, pulling on the Reverse Thrust levers (which are mechanically linked to the Speedbrake lever) will lift the Speedbrake Lever up (out of the DOWN detent) and trigger another microswitch, the "Engine Thrust Reverse" switch, which will also activate the Auto Speedbrake circuits: Either of these switches will activate a servomotor... and the servomotor will drive the Speedbrake Lever aft (deploying the speedbrakes). If you haven't armed the Speedbrake Lever for landing, and the reverser activates the Speedbrake Lever servomotor, when the speedbrake lever moves aft (past the ARM detent), it also triggers the normal Auto Speedbrake Arming switch... so there are basically two micro switches keeping the speedbrake servomotor circuits activated. However, if the Auto Speedbrake Arming Switch is faulty (say it is stuck in the "Not Armed" position), the Speedbrake Lever will only be controlled by the Engine Thrust Reverse switch... and when you stow the Reversers, the spoilers will also stow. We may have to get Wade or Laurent to check their logic circuits if everyone has this problem ;-)Cheers.Ian.
October 4, 200223 yr I have this problem as well, no autospeedbrake deployment on touchdown. They activate with reverse thrust and remain up until stowed.
October 4, 200223 yr HiI'm not sure a what point they deploy but they definately do deploy. I will do an autolanding with the pedestal in view (only have 1 monitor) and see what happens.CheersPaul
October 4, 200223 yr OK, I just did a full autoland (zzzzz). As I touched down the spoilers breifly deployed but then immediately stowed again. They then re-deployed as I engaged reverse thrust. They then stayed deployed until I added power to taxi off the rwy. Sound familiar?CheersPaul
October 4, 200223 yr Yeap...Faulty autospeedbrakes microswitch alright...You better note it in the logbook for engineers to look at it.:-)George DorkofikisAthens, Greece
October 4, 200223 yr Just had the same problem with PIC/POSKY MergeAirport = EIDW (Dublin)Default MS scenery.Still AirNil WeatherQNH 1013OAT +15V.F.W. = 120.3Kgs (265.2Lbs) Fuel = 23.0Kgs (50700Lbs)Vref Flap30 = 145 Vapp = 150AGS armedOn touch down it appeared to slightly bounce, Spoilers deployed and restowed, deployed again with reverse thrust. It might be weight related, I'll try it again at MLWOne other thing, although I had "Rollout" green annunciated I seemed to loose rollout guidance after reverser selection can anyone tell me when it should disengage, I thougth it was with A/P disconnect.BTW it was a beautiful autoland everything right on the numbers all the way down. You wouldn't get that in a DF737.
October 4, 200223 yr Interesting thread..Ian - as always your technical knowledge blows us all away. I'll have to re-read that after a few more cups of coffee .I've never watched the aircraft from outside while landing so no clue if my brakes come out automatically on touchdown (I should do this).I do know that when I engage reverse thrust they come up automatically until I add forward power.Should it matter if I use autobrake or not? I never do - is seems that I have identified a somewhat satisfying feeling about standing on the brakes after we slow enough.Ian Elchitz CYWG
October 4, 200223 yr Ian, do you have brake pedals that offer analog braking? Otherwise, for me with keyboard/joystick, manual braking seems way too effective. I prefer autobrakes 2-3 for longer rollouts.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
October 4, 200223 yr Lee,I have CH Pro Pedals (highly recommended along with the yoke, though the pedals seems to have configuration issues from time to time).I used to have the brakes set to one of my thumb switches on my joystick - and yes I agree, it was a little ineefective (even worse was landing and holding down ".")Ian Elchitz CYWG
