SID/STAR selection causes FS2002 to crash

Featured Replies

Every so often when I select a SID/STAR, the little mouse cursor stays showing a hand and I can't do anything for about 5 minutes, and the hard drive seems to be rapidly loading something. After about 5 minutes, it just brings up the error dialog thing and flight sim shuts down.Anyone got a fix for this? I have tried selecting the runway before selecting the SID/STAR and vice versa but both seem to cause the error.

OBK,A few questions:What AIRAC file are you using and where did you download it?Is there a specific SID/STAR that keeps causing this or does this happen all the time?If there IS a specific SID/STAR - where did you download it from? Can you re-create the situation and let us know what the factors were surrounding it?This is a fairly common problem, as I recall it it fixed usually by updating your AIRAC - and fixing the SID/STAR causing the problem.Ian Elchitz CYWG

Hi,The correct way is to first select the STAR and then the arrival rwy.The oposite for SIDs. Select the departure rwy first and then the SID to fly.Apart from that, some SID/STARs may be corrupted. Those can cause you crashes irrespective of how you made the FMC programming.Using Notepad (or any text editor), open the SID or STAR in question and look if there is a comma (,) at the end of each line except the very last with says 'End' something. If the comma is not there add it, save the file and that particular SID or STAR will not give you any more crashes.Don't know why this happens, but the above works.Fly safe,George DorkofikisAthens, Greece

Thanks! It happens every now and then, not with a particular Sid/Star either.I'll try the comma routine, but how irritating it must be to have to do that all the time! Thanks again.

Ian,Over time I've learned to live with this problem. All my ESSA stars lead to the dreaded hand and restart, yet all of them contain a comma. If I select the star first, then it's no problem. Usually it only goes wrong when on arrival I get another rwy assigned than planned for. In the spur of the moment I sometimes forget the proper sequence. Some time ago I digged in a little further, and what I found was that in some cases the last waypoint on the route was the first on the star (which sounds logical). If I removed the last waypoint on the route, then the order did not matter any more. I stopped looking for other causes (or properly verify this hypothesis), so it still might be something different. I just have to be careful.Kind regards,Stephan Haas

I tried programming a TWEED1A to runway 24 at EGPH today, FS crashed 3 times and then i gave up, heres whats in the STAR:------------------------------------------------------W,BLACA,,0,54.883333,-005.158889,0.000000,000,0,00000,0W,GIRVA,,0,55.185556,-004.896389,0.000000,000,0,00000,0W,D257Y,,0,55.361922,-004.043172,0.000000,000,0,11000,2W,D257J,,0,55.444747,-003.628128,0.000000,250,0,00000,0W,TLA,,0,55.499167,-003.352778,0.000000,000,0,00000,0W,TARTN,,0,55.717222,-003.138611,0.000000,000,0,07000,0W,,,0,91.000000,181.000000,0.000000,000,0,00000,0W,TWEED,,0,55.676944,-003.277222,0.000000,000,0,00000,0End of Standard Terminal Arrival Procedure------------------------------------------------------Anything wrong with that?

Try putting commas at the end of each line, like someone else suggested: Example;'===============================W,MARGO,,0,54.707500,-002.774722,0.000000,000,0,26000,2,W,ESKDO,,0,55.298889,-003.204167,0.000000,000,0,00000,0,W,D192V,,0,55.358269,-003.195628,0.000000,250,0,16000,2,W,TARTN,,0,55.717222,-003.138611,0.000000,000,0,07000,0,W,,,0,91.000000,181.000000,0.000000,000,0,00000,0,W,TWEED,,0,55.676944,-003.277222,0.000000,000,0,00000,0,===============================
