Things I thought were supposed to work differently ....

Hello all, First post here, so be gentle ;) I'm an Aircraft Mech at Air Canada, currently into week 8 of a 9 week 767 endorsement course. I got 767 PIC to check out flight deck indications etc, and get used to playing with the FMC.After each day on course, I would eagerly rush home the fire up the sim to see for myself the things I'd learned that day.I must say that it is an amazingly realistic simulation, but I was slightly dissapointed to find somethings didn't work like I'd been taught, and unfortunately I haven't had a chance to play around in the cockpit of a live a/c yet to confirm some things.I've taken the time to read back through this forum, and there sure are some very knowledgable people here, but as far as I could tell a few of the things I noticed didn't get mentioned .... any comments ?? - I've noticed that the Flight Director Command Bars displayed in the EADI are in view whenever the FD is selected on, in spite of Instrument Source Select switch position for the FD ..... I was led to believe the each of the three FCC's could either act as a Flight Director or an Autopilot, not both. So subsequently that the FD command bars would disappear from view when the Source Select switch was selected to the FCC currently in command. - I've also noticed that the inboard and outboard Aileron position indications on the Status page don't split slightly when flaps are lowered beyond 5 units as I think they would ( do to I/B aileron droop mechanism ) Also on the same train of thought, shouldn't the O/B Aileron indications remain neutral and I/B ailerons deflect during an aircraft bank at airspeed above 275 knts ?? ( do to Aileron lockout feature ).So is the sim right or Air Canada's training material ?? :)

Er, umm, it's a $30 addon. Greg_________________________ "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return"-Leonardo Da Vinci

"Er, umm, it's a $30 addon. "LOL, yeah Greg, I guess your right! Thanks for the reality check :)

So subsequently that the FD command >bars would disappear from view when the Source Select switch >was selected to the FCC currently in command.G'day, Charlie. This is an airline option (pin programmed as I recall). PIC is, essentially, modelled on an AA aircraft, so may not have this option. Check your wiring schematics to see if your 767 FCC's have this option pin grounded/earthed.> - I've also noticed that the inboard and outboard >Aileron position indications on the Status page don't split >slightly when flaps are lowered beyond 5 units as I think >they would ( due to I/B aileron droop mechanism )I seem to recall PIC Teammember/pilot, Eric, responding to this question last year when I asked it. Unfortunately, I can't remember his response :-( The displays may or may not ignore aileron droop (the neutral point may be repositioned to ignore aileron droop?). I may have to look into this matter further... I seem to recall something about the displays(?) being shown relative to control wheel movement, but I can't be sure. > Also on the same train of thought, shouldn't the O/B >Aileron indications remain neutral and I/B ailerons deflect >during an aircraft bank at airspeed above 275 knts ?? ( due >to Aileron lockout feature ). Did you allow 15 seconds for the lockout actuator to actuate? :-hah Also, do your notes mention that only the down deflection is affected by aileron lockout (on the 767)? Perhaps your actuators have iced up? I seem to remember there was a maintenance memo issued in regards to this phenomenon, but can't quite remember the contents ... This used to be a common problem, but I haven't seen it for a while... Perhaps a modification has been made?).Anyway... Hope this helps.Cheers.Ian.P.S. BTW, please say hello to Mike at Air Canada's Maintenance Watch/Control for me. He's now a resident expert at the Aerowinx 747-400 site.

"Also, do your notes mention that only the down deflection is affected by aileron lockout (on the 767)? "Sorry... Please ignore this remark folks... I read something out of context in my training notes (I should have known better ;-)). Aileron Lockout affects both up and down movement. According to the Boeing Maintenance Manual, the allowable (movement) tolerance for the Outboard Ailerons is 1 degree up/down, when they are locked. And speaking of "Aileron Lockout".... I think someone jinxed me again by talking about airplane defects..... I actually had an Aileron Lockout problem on a 747-400 today! (Haven't had one for years). No worries... I needed the experience ;-)Cheers.Ian.
