Hi all,My question is about area navigation:We have a route in Israel which is used as is, but sometimes due to traffic concerns, ATC direct stations to fly "offset" the route - the is 1 mile east (or west - depends on flight direction) to the route. Is the PIC FMS capable of doing so? how? and if not, any clue how is it done in real life aviation? Thanks!

TheJones,In the main route (RTE) page enter R or L for right or left and the number of nautical miles off track (2 digits).e.g. R01 and hit the LSK beside offset for a one mile offset to the right.let me know if that helpsLex

I'm afraid it didn't...If I understand you correctly, I should enter the offset (R01 for example) after having the route programmed. However, pressing the lsk abeam any route point will cause an error message ("not in database").let me know if I'm doing something wrong, or if any other idea comes up.and of course - Thanks again!Ilan

Hi Ian, the problem is that u are entering the offset as a waypoint! Valid entries are L,R 01-99mn e.g. L08 as in my exampleSee pics for further information

How about that. You learn something new every day!I have probably "flown" 500+ hours with PIC767 over the past year or so, read and re-read the manual several times, and combined with my real-world experience, thought I had it figured out pretty well. It was also my understanding that the offset feature was not modelled in the sim. I guess I was wrong. So, I am glad someone finally asked the question (first time I think I have seen it) and even happier to see that someone had a good answer. I learned something new today. Thanks again.Cheers,Kevin in CYOW.

As an FYI...this feature doesn't always work as advertised and depends greatly on the spacing of the waypoints in the plan. My advice is, like any change, to *carefully* review the change as it is shown on the EHSI map (the dotted magenta line). If it doesn't look sane or like the screenshot shown above, don't EXEC or you will find yourself flying around in circles, or possibly flying back the way you came ;-)Usually it works, but there are some quirks in the offset system.J

How does LNAV transition to the offset route? I mean, if you're flying along, and ATC wants you to offset a few miles, do you want to switch to HDG SEL, set up the offset, turn with HDG SEL, and then arm LNAV? What if you remained in LNAV?I guess I should just shut up and try it out for myself.Lee Hetherington (KBED)

Hi all,Yes, you learn new things every day (if you read this forum...).I also have more than a few hours with PIC plus a lot of reading and real world ATC experience - yet I needed an answer here. Now to the questions above:After a "huge" one flight experience with route offset, I can say the following:1. choosing offset did cause some problems, as the plane started to turn in circles like jase kindly warned us. except for that it worked fine. (BTW switching to the next waypoint solved this issue).2. no need to leave LNAV mode - choosing the offset and activating the mod route will bring the plane to the offset course.Bye for now,Ilan

I don't believe this will be fixed in the upcoming patch (it's not a very widely used feature), but Wade and Pedro both know about it, so I'm sure it will get addressed in due course.
