October 30, 200223 yr Alrighty Gurus,Did a search, didnt find anything that I was looking for.I want to use PIC w/ the great POSKY B764 models. Trying to find the ZFW for the B764. Which, If im looking at the correct thing, pretty sure am I. The Maximum Zero Fuel Weight for the Boeing 764 is 330lbs.I asked MB if there was a merge out for the B764 and PIC. He informed that there was not. I have yet to e-mail Lee to find out if he has one sitting somewhere? So here is my question. . .Can I use the B763 merge and then just edit the ZFW in the aircraft.cfg file? And I have read that the largest amount the PIC FMS will take in for ZFW is around 288lbs?Thanks Guys,Josh Hjemvick
October 30, 200223 yr Josh,Someone correct me quickly if this is not correct. My understanding is that whatever merge file you use, you will still NEED to use the PIC default flight dynamics of the "air" and "cfg" files. If you want to use a 764 for the aircraft, you can do that but will need to make some adjustments to one of the other merge processes. In particular, you will change the ZFW (empty_weight) varible in the aircraft.cfg file to somewhere between the limits of about 199,000 and 288,000. What you will end up with from a cockpit standpoint is the default 767-300 PIC that is light or heavy. You will have a problem loading enough fuel if you plan on any really long hauls with a 288,000 ZFW as you may end up above the maximum takeoff weight. For fuel planning, I think your maximum fuel capacity will end up being reduced by something like 43,000 pounds. I know of no way around this.
October 31, 200223 yr Mike pretty much hit it on the head. You can certainly use the PIC 763 flight dynamics and change the ZFW in the airfile for that "heavier feel" (you might need to increase the static thrust of your engines a bit, if you do), but you will either have to roll out with a lighter fuel load and use 288 as your max in the FMC (work it out so that the total gross weight adds up to be the same), or you will have to make adjustments to the performance calculations the FMC makes. You get the same problem (only worse) trying to drop in a 757 in with PIC (only in reverse ;-) It would be a good idea, in future products, if the FMC was less "static" in this regard and more configurable so that it could accomodate other airfiles. I've floated this idea by Wade in the past. Maybe the 'next great venture' will have more flexibility in this regard.J
October 31, 200223 yr Thanks for your help guys. . .after doing some more research, which I should have done in the first place. Im realizing that using the PIC panel wouldnt be too realistic, considering the 764 panel is all glass (similar) to the B777.I think im going on an endevour. . . one I hope I can complete before I go off to the air force :)More to come :)
