November 1, 200223 yr Hello everyone..I need help... I've been trying to land the plane for the longest time and it's just not sinking in.. Can someone please tell me what they do when coming down for landing.. Ok say your descending at your at 10,000 feet, What do you do from there?Seems I can never catch the ILS.. I've done everything I thought was right, And it just seems my plane will not catch the ILS.Please help me.. It'll be a happy day when I finally have a nice smooth landing.. Any help would do..Eggy
November 1, 200223 yr BTW, Anyone know of a tutorial or something that can better help me understand landing PIC?Took me awhile to learn how to use the FMC but I did.. Now once I learn this landing part, Ill be A-OK! :)- Eggy
November 1, 200223 yr We could better help you if you told us what you *were* doing and then correct your procedure from there.
November 1, 200223 yr Ok.. Here what iam doing..Pretty much following the FMC alt. For instance, I was flying from Kord rwy 14r to KMEM rwy 36c.Ok, Once iam reach T/D my fmc showed FL217, I set My MCP to 217then from there I went down to alt 665 ( That's what the fmc had also)once I got down to 10,000 I set my flaps to 5, Then I Manually tuned in the ILS for rwy 36c which was 110.50.Ok, I know I was suppose to intercept the localizer, but I my plane wont catch it.. I had my speedbrakes set to 1Once I intercept the localizer I would have set my flaps to 20 then armed the speed brakes. But I can't catch the ILS..Thanks
November 1, 200223 yr OK, do you have the APP button selected on the autopilot panel, also you need the correct runway heading in the course selector. You would also need to be below the glideslope to intercept it. I usually descend to be at about 3500' by 20 miles from the airport.
November 1, 200223 yr Switch the view mode from map to ILS. Are you seeing the localiser and g/s on that, if not check that you have tuned your ils (normally the fmc would do this for you).I normally aim to be 40nm away from landing at 10000. This gives me time to slow to 250kts, and then I use about v/s -1600 ft/min and 220kts. This help prevent the aircraft from accelerating. I stay 'clean' until I reach about 3000ft, by which time i'm a little bit below the g/s. 20nm to go now.I will also be in hdy mode and no more than 40 degrees off the rway course. I now arm the app mode and begin to slow down using about flap 15 and 180kts. That might be the other thing to watch, I can't remember what the limit is, but the localiser will only capture within a certain limit of the rway centerline. Not sure what the elevation is for KMEM, but you may need to make allowances for the alts mentioned above.Hope that my input may help you...Carl
November 1, 200223 yr Had the same problem. After a engine failure, turned around to the field manually but the plane just doesn't dives. keeps pitching up.full down trimidle powerit did went down. stalling.Cheers.Pedro
November 1, 200223 yr Sounds like your not intercepting the ILS correctly, basically as said in a previous post 3000-3500 feet is needed to correctly 'capture' the LOC and then ultimately the glidescope. I have to tell you, it's extremely satifying to do this when done correctly, and also hand flying the aircraft is just such a an awesome expeierence if done with realism. I have monitored many times the approach sequence into my local airport (KPDX). And flown the same route, PIC is such a work of art !!!
November 1, 200223 yr Don't know if this would work, but try adjusting the trim on the pedestal. Sometimes when you trim on your joystick, the trim doesn't move, and a click of the trim *might* help
November 2, 200223 yr Thanks for all the help guys.Iam about to do another flight now, And I'll let yall know how it went. Thanks again for all the help :)-Eggy
