November 3, 200223 yr Hi,When I select a derated thrust setting for take-off I use the auto throttle and click 'SPD' after setting 70% N1. Is that the right procedure? Also, in real-life if the pilot sets a de-rated take-off can he not just push the throttles full forward or must he use the 'SPD' button to get this thrust setting?Lastly, if an engine fails after V1 and SPD is engaged, what happens?Do you manually push the throttles full forward or does the 767 give you max N1 automatically?Regards,
November 3, 200223 yr You definitely don't want to push SPD for takeoff. You want N1 to hold a computed N1 setting and then pitch to maintain desired speed on climb.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
November 3, 200223 yr Manually set throttles to give you 60% N1 then once you're happy the engines are stable at that setting press the TOGA button (beneath the SPB button on the MCP), this will increase the %N1 to whatever your TO N1 is, which obviously depends on whether you're using a de-rated take off. You're meant to climb to 1000ft at V2+15, although Im ust admit I do find it difficult with PIC. Once passing 1000ft select VNAV and you're climb thrust. Smoothly accelerate away, remembering to retract the flaps in accordance with what is bugged.Of course procs may change in order to combat different situations that may arise.Rgds
November 3, 200223 yr The N1 button (or EPR button on PW/RR) does not function as a TOGA switch. The GA switches are located on the thrust levers and not only apply GA thrust (with the A/T connected) but give GA information to the FD. Pressing the N1 button with the A/T armed will drive the thrust levers to set the thrust set on the Thrust Management Computer in the preflight stage. The A/T is not looking for a speed (so SPD mode is incorrect), it is looking for a particular N1 that will power the aircraft to a certified takeoff. It will hang on to that N1 until a different power setting is commanded, at the expense of speed...if you were to get ALT CAP and level off the aircraft would accelerate through all limit speeds!
November 4, 200223 yr As the guys are saying, don't touch the SPD button during your t/o run ...My technique is to manually give power, aiming for the de-rate indicator, with autothrottle engaged. When engines have spooled up I select VNAV/LNAV, which will both serve to provide flight guidance and adjust thrust to CLB2 power for simulated noise abatement procedures. Used to select N1, but this is much easier and I find it cool to hear the engines rev down, right when you're hanging on to V2+15 in a steep climb. Trim, trim,
