November 7, 200223 yr Hello again, :-) I just noticed something on a recent visit to the local airport at LGA.I noticed some jets parked at the gate with deflected controls ( elevator down, aileron's and rudder deflected)does the pilot leave the controls how they are after landing even if deflected? November 7, 200223 yr On the 767 the hydraulics are depressurised on shutdown so the elevators and inboard ailerons all droop with no pressure. The rudder is affected by wind, that's why on a windy day all the rudders go the same way. The outboard ailerons do not droop as they are mass balanced. When the hydraulics are pressurised to check the flight controls pre-start they all sit up flush, and any open gear doors will slam shut, which is why clearance from a ground engineer is important prior to pressurising hydraulics, to make sure the doors are clear!
November 7, 200223 yr Maybe Boeing learn from mistakeson the Pre - B17 era there was a flight control lock to prevent rudder drift with wind and so on ....on Oct 30th 1935, model 299 at wright airfield.a crew did't turned it off and crashed on takeoff when the elevator didn't respond to input.on taxi there was no sign of the problem as taxi was done with differential breaks and tail wheel steering.picture attached.s**t happens.Pedro
