Sorry to bother you all with such a trivial question:I got to thinking about it the other day... Lets pretend (Since that's what most of us are doing every time we start FS2002) that you had to disconnect one on the generators from the engine due to some failure (e.g. overheating). What is the correct procedure to follow regarding having a backup system to your backup. By this I mean, if you are running on one generator, the only other electrical sources you have are the other generator, the APU (which is not running, at least if I follow the checklist) and the battery. If it where me acting only on instinct (Because I've searched and haven't found the answer), I would start the APU since the batteries won't do you much good. And in the event something happens with your remaining generator, you would have an alternate source of power. Now I know the likelihood of the other generator failing a short time later is minimal, but since it does take 2-3 minutes to for the APU to get up to speed, would it not make sense to start it??? I don't know.Like I said, it's a trivial question, and one I'm sure quite a few people know the answer to. I was just curious.BTW in the WILCO/ PIC767 Adventure Scripts the is no mention of this scenario. However they do cover the below.I appreciate the input... Was a chin scratcher for meLEVEL 1 : ELECTRICAL FAILURE (PAGE 2 of the '767 PIC Adventure Scripts.pdf')Dispatch condition : APU u/s.Startup has been performed with the help of external pneumatic combined with external groundpower. During cruise phase, both generators disconnect -> aircraft in emergency electricalconfiguration. The failure was due to both faulty center electrical hydraulic pumps, since they arepowered each by the left and right buses respectively. After applying the checklist, one of thegenerator can be recovered.COPILOT

You would most certainly start your apu, in the event of a dual generator failure ,your HMG (if so equiped ,at least 757's) will come on line automatically to provide elec power to your bat bus, and hot bat bus, left and right AC transfer bus, cpt's inst transfer bus, stdby ac and dc bus, fo's inst's will not be powered. This generator is powered by the center hyd pump.

>This generator is powered by the center hyd pump.Does PIC have any Hydraulic Motor Generators (HMG's)? I searched the pdf file and found no reference to it/them. However, I'd still start the APU. As I recall, unlike aircraft like the 747-400, the APU battery does not provide any power to the flight instruments on the 767. Therefore, you wouldn't have to worry about starting the APU in flight if you were running on (Main) Battery/Stby Power only. This failure scenario does involve the failure of the two centre elec hydraulic pumps, however, if PIC does have an HMG, I'd guess that the ADP would provide sufficient hydraulic pressure to the HMG to get it started.Cheers.Ian.

Yup, start the APU for sure! That way you still have 2 sources of electrical power, so the flight can continue as normal. If you were to lose a second source then you're diverting to the nearest available airport. You can also dispatch with one generator inoperative, but are limited to 120mins ETOPS.

Gregg,In this particular scenario the APU is unserviceable (u/s) and therefore is not available for use. Otherwise, one of the steps would have been to start the APU.Bob
