December 13, 200223 yr Can someone please confirm that the long range cruise option on the VNAV CRZ page does not work/is not modelled? In real life what are the benefits of choosing this option? And how is a 'long range cruise' defined?TIA
December 13, 200223 yr Confirmed - LRC is not modelled.LRC IRL IMHO - will give you optimal speed for longest range. There may be a difference between range and endurance...two different things...may be a subtle distinction in the FMC calcs.RW pilots will pipe in here I am sure.Rob.
December 13, 200223 yr Let's pipe a little bit. LRC is 99% of Maximum Range Cruise, which is the speed at which you will fly the maximum range (.78 for a B757). To clarify the 99%, LRC is the speed required to fly 99% of maximum range.
December 14, 200223 yr 4% Faster than Maximum Range Cruise speed, yet like already said, 99% the distance. LRC is the most common option used by airlines.
December 15, 200223 yr Yeah thats all true what everyone has said. As the flight continues the aircraft reduces it's weight from burning off the fuel and the aeroplane actually slows down (reducing Mach No) or throttles back as the flight continues whilst maintainng a constant Angle of attack. This is because the same amount of lift isn't needed to maintain the altitude anymore as fuel is burnt off to maintain the constant Angle of Attack.I hope that isn't too difficult to follow!!!BARGE
