Why all 3 autopilots engage on ILS approach?

Featured Replies

Is this the way the real-life B767 works? When I fly an A/P ILS approach, at one point all three autopilots activate automatically, although I only manually activated one.If this is not the way the real plane works, how do I disable the 3 autopilot auto engage feature on the PIC panel?Thank you in advance,Kerke (KMIA) :-wave---

Some airlines have this feature for autolandings, others don't. You can easily disable it by going to the menu under "carrier options."

You'll find this on the majority of aircraft that have autoland. All three modes have to be active. If one of them fails (due to the IRS system failing) you cannot perform an autoland.

Well ,you can autoland with two autoplilots active "LAND2" mode.

Here's the carrier options dialog box. Are you referring to the Autoland Restrictions checkbox? It is checked by default I believe, at least on my PIC. With that box checked, all 3 A/P "auto" engage on ILS approach, do I need to uncheck (no autoland restrictions) to reverse the auto engaging of all 3 A/P?Thanks again,Kerke

It's the "AFDS automatic multi-channel" box. Uncheck it and you will have to engage the two remaining autopilots manually for an autoland.Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

OK, thanks a bunch,Kerke :-wave
