Difficulty ntercepting route after departure.

Featured Replies

I departed CYVR on runway heading, using heading select mode. My route was shown to the right of my present track. I passed the first two waypoints on this heading, before giving myself a realistic intercept heading which steered my directly towards my third leg and switched to LNAV. However, the FMC gave me a message stating that the heading was not acceptable (or some similar wording). I don't understand why it did not want to intercept the route. Was I supposed to cancel the first two waypoints?

Kenny,The FMC will not bypass the Active waypoint when in HDG SEL mode. So if you have already passed the First Waypoint in HDG SEL mode and switch to LNAV, the FMC still thinks you have not passed the First or Active Waypoint, and so you get the message:NOT ON INTERCEPT HEADING What you want to do is:Establish the Intercept for the Waypoint you want to go to using HDG SEL.Open the FMC Legs Page.Find the waypoint you are wanting to go to. Press the Button Next to this waypoint on the Left Hand Side.Press the Top Left Hand Button. The Execute Switch should now have a Lit portion on it. Press the Execute Button.Select LNAV.The FMC will now give the Autopilot the Info it needs to carry out LNAV functions.Hope this helps.Mark

OK, I'll give that a try. Thanks!
