White out on approach PIC 767

Featured Replies

On descent for landing with the PIC 767, at about 5000 ft. the screen turns white even during blue sky conditions. This makes the landing difficult even with the auto land system. Visibility is essentially limited to the length of the aircraft. On auto land the runway becomes visible underneath the aircraft at about 100 ft. altitude, the white runway line are visible underneath the aircraft and it is possible to guide the aircraft to a stop. Using Pause, Removing All Weather, visibility is recovered again (of course). I played with the settings in Fsuipc(2.972) under Visibility without any success. I have seen this white out problem before with other aircraft but I have been unable to solve the problem. Has anyone seen this problem? Maurice

Which weather program are you using?

I am using the weather available thru FS2002, no third party program.Maurice

Okay. But if you've also experienced the problem with other panels it's obviously not related to 767 PIC. What are the settings on the Visibility tab of FSUIPC?

I did experienced this problem of white out with other panels. However, the problem had disappeared with my new computer and XP Pro, Ti4600 graphic card, until I recently installed FScene. I removed FScene but the problem is there with the PIC 767. The settings under Visibility are Apply... Clear 6000, 2000, overcast 2000 rainy 1000 Stop visibility.... 0Smooth visibility , every 2 sec.Add ramdom METARSet grad. visibility 6000, up to 25000, upper visib.6000All four parameters were active in several occurrences. I tried with the first only...Apply... but the white out still occurred. Would be happy to try any numbers your suggests.Maurice

I thought the Add Random METAR parameter only applied when you had weather data supplied by an external program. How about unchecking that option and see if it clears up.

Have you tried the "Apply Attempted White-Out fix" on the Technical Tab? (User guide p9)

Yes, add Random METAR is for external programs. I have tried uncheck and checked and this did not clear solve the problem.

Yes, tried Apply Attempted White-Out Fix - no luck, even tried it unchecked.

How about pressing the button on the first page and resetting all the options to default?

I will try the default settings later tonite. Thankyou

I set FSuipc with the default settings as suggested and this worked fine on the landing at Pearson. I will try some other airports where the white-out problem occurred and report the results on this forum. Thank you for the suggestions so far.Maurice
