navdata and fixes

Featured Replies

I'm using Richard Steffan's navdata, and on teh adi my fixes for an IAF no longer overlay the extended centerline of a runway- seen below is KBOS 15R, but other runways are similar. I still have issues when flying a coupled approach- the aircraft insists on flying paralell to the final approach course, but offset by roughly 1 dod on the coarse scale.

That almost looks like the runway data is using true vs. magnetic directions (16-degree difference at KBOS), but I don't use Richard Steffan's navdata so don't know for sure. You might want to compare the KBOS 15R entries in that navdata vs. those that came with the FS2002 PIC patch.Lee Hetherington (KBED)http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

Upon further review... below is the ILS27 to KBOS that was created with Jason Barlow's navdata; Author : Jason Barlow ([email protected]); Revision : AIRAC Cycle 0201; Effective: 24 January 2002 to 20 February 2002; Date : 16 January 2002;The FMC that I'm not showing, reads the course between my waypoints as 273, which is the course of the extended centerline as seen here (I took off from KBED29, that's way we see the other centerline) But the ADI shows these waypoints as being closer to 253 degrees. The intended courseline should overlay the extended centerline!! the FMC says that the course is 273, the heading bug is set to 273, the extended centerline is 273, but the indended courseline is not.The difference is easily explained away by magnetic Variation, however, all of that should be factored in to the navdata, and I should be on the localizer in APP mode. However, the aircraft will fly a nicley offset ILS.Here are 2 lines describing RIPIT- the top is from the fix file, the bottom is from airnav.com. I do not have a converter handy, so they may be saying the same thing. If they are both DMS, then they are different. RIPIT 42.379513 -70.87834242-22-46.760N / 070-52-39.050W I guess this leads to what are known good Nav data files? THis is now in error with 2 sets of real world data, understandable since the MS data is very static :)

Those are not both DMS. The first is just D.Attached is what it looks like for me on KBOS ILS27, and I'm showing the FMC page identifying the data in use.Lee Hetherington (KBED)http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

This is indeed a strange phenomena. I have the Airac 03/03 Update from Richard Steffan's Site installed, and have the exact same displays as Lee Gets, No problems. However I have seen something similar before - MAP SHIFT. I have seen Map Shift being caused by entering a wrong digit during the IRS align phase, although not as severe as that, usually .1 of a mile Left or Right of the desired track. My suggestion would be to DELETE all Navdata From the FMCWP folder.Install Jason's AIRAC data.Go to KBOS, and programme a route from runway 15r to runway 15r. Use the Plan Mode and Step through the waypoints - alignment should be perfect. Then if you wish to install Richard's AIRAC data do the same as above.Mark

Hi gents,i think i couldn
