Hi all-I had a question about what procedures are used regarding airspeed settings during climb and descent without VNAV. I normally use FLCH for my climbs and descents. Above 10,000, I normally increase the speed setting to 300kts until I'm at cruise and then set the Mach#. I basically do the same thing for descent until reaching 10,000. When nearing 10k, I normally start to bring the speed back so I'm at 250 at 10k. I'm really just trying to see what procedures are used in the real world. Thanks for any insight!Eric

The only point I would make is that on the climb you should transition to mach as the mach reaches .78 to .80 (depending on CI, company proecedures, etc) rather than maintain 300 kias to cruise altitude. This transition should occur somewhere between FL280 and FL300.Same idea for the descent, start with a mach and then transition to KIAS.Kevin in CYOW
