Just a shot in the dark here - but based on your error message and what you have mentioned already attempting, my suggestion is:Try downloading a new version of Acrobat.http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/main.html

Or better yet, why not copy the manuals from the CD to a folder on your hard drive; then open them from there.
