TCAS progress?

Featured Replies

May I ask how far the developement of the TCAS add-on has come? Will there be an update including acustic warnings in the next time? The gauge is simply wunderfull!

I wish I could say that I have been busy on working on the next version, but unfortunately between work and finishing my PPL (within weeks I hope!) I have been too busy. I do have a good start on realistic TCAS II, but I do not know when I can work on it again. Hopefully within a few months I'll have something new, but no promises. The fact of the matter is that TCAS TAs and RAs are fairly rare. Have you folks been seeing them with AI and/or SquawkBox? My guess is the vast majority are Other or Proximate Traffic (diamonds), particularly if ATC is doing its job. The new enhancements would be visible only with TAs and RAs.Lee Hetherington (KBED)http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

Come on Lee - this should be a priority. What have you done for me lately?Disclaimer: This was a joke. I want to adopt Lee.

"The fact of the matter is that TCAS TAs and RAs are fairly rare."Well, don

Then maybe Microsoft should implement it.I'm still surprised by this. Even with RVSM you ought to generally have 1000' vertical separation. In TCAS II 7.0, the vertical threshold for TAs is 850' up to FL420. Above that the threshold goes to 1200', but isn't that about where RVSM ends?In 6.0, I believe the threshold was 1200' for most flight levels. They decreased it because of RVSM.In the gauge I released, the TA threshold is 850' up to FL300 and 1200' above.Lee Hetherington (KBED)http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

Thanks for your reply. You are certainly right, definitely most traffic are "blue diamonts", there are only a few yellow and almost no "reds" even when using ATC set at 100%. So, first of all, good luck with your PPL! (Will wait patiently for any gauge enhancements which may follow in the future)cheers

Actually Lee, early last week I had just started my decent in uncontrolled airspace when what should appear but a target 3000 feet below at my 12 and climbing. The closer we got, the more interesting it became. I announced on unicom (122.80) that I was stopping my decent and maintaining FL 270 but he just kept comming, and climbing. Now we have yellow showing up on the gauge and this picture had trouble written all over it. Rather than turning off course, hey it's only a simulator, I sat back and watched the TCAS show. OK, red target now and I could see the separation between the nav lights up ahead pretty clearly. If the gauge could have "talked", it would have been screaming. We missed by about 500 feet and no one got killed (like someone could have) and I will tell you the gauge worked exactly as advertised. I just smiled and muttered something like, "wow, Lee is pretty good"

I think you might be better off designing an implementation for the AI aircraft ;-) (He started behind me!)
