May 5, 200323 yr Guys,The Race Across the Pond was undoubtedly a successful event, for everyone apart from me :( If only my PC hadn't froze. I was reckoning for about 7hrs 30 using track C at Mach 0.82.The planned time for a 767 at M0.80 EGLL-CYYZ yesterday according to the trip.com was 7hrs 57m.This makes PIC, FS and the weather packages we were using extremely accurate.Found this post on the Vatsim UK website that I thought you might like to see: Re:PIC Race across the pond
May 6, 200323 yr Great job putting this together Mark. I am really sorry the schedule "given me" last Sunday kept me from participating in the flight (which I would have flown at Mach .845 by the way). I did manage to catch some of the action on Servinfo a couple times and it looked like a lot of fun. The complement from Michael Benson is no surprise. EVERY time we have done a PIC on VATSIM event, we have received very similar feedback from local ATC. The fact is, those of us that follow this forum through our appreciation for the 767PIC have become very skilled (and prepaired) pilots. ATC picks up on that just as fast as we pick up on the skills of the controllers along the route. For those of you that have never put one of these events together, I can tell you that it is a lot of work but it is also very rewarding. And when you make advance arrangements with local FIRs and ARTCCs, you do so with an extream amount of confidence that the pilots participating will be very good and know what they are doing. There are a few more PIC on VATSIM flights I have up my sleeve, namely the BBall run (with Capt Ball's help), the Ponskey Ponderosa (a little surprise of my own), a flight into Ilan's airspace from Nairobi (with help from Ilan), and then to get the self sustaining Sunday flights started. After that, I will be backing off to completely focus on the VATSIM Pilot Training Program.I encourge anyone with the ambition and time available to come up with a good plan and sponsor one of these flights. Team up with someone and come up with a good plan. As I have been told many times by 856, "If you build it they will come." So jump in and pick up the slack. I will be glad to help out as would be several others who helped me along the way. Just ask.Nice job on this one Mark!
May 6, 200323 yr Thanks Mike.Had No real idea of the work invovled in setting up an event like this until I got started. The worrying thing was looking at the ATC bookings on the VATSIM Uk website on the Saturday and seeing no coverage for our event. Thanskfully everything fell into place nicely. To anyone wanting to set up an event.Get a date sorted first. I had to wait for my May Roster at work to be issued before I could sort out a final date and this delayed the planning.Contact the Vatsim FIR's involved as soon as possible. The guys there will be happy to help out with planning and arranging ATC coverage for you.Anyone willing to plan an event, just jump in and do it. That's what I did and it seemed to work out okay.
May 6, 200323 yr What i find funny is that we, BAW pilots(BAV of course ;-)) have received an email from the staff titled: "BEST VA - YES! BEST PILOTS - NO!"To be honest, i must agree as many fellow BAV pilots are seriously unqualified. I'm not saying i'm the perfect pilot here, certainly not, but i am in the better part of the BAW pilots...this complaint email is based upon VATSIM-uK's letters to BAV regarding the poor quality of pilots... could it be, that we, as PIC drivers are the better hand of BAW?They are putting a Virtual ATPL in place now, under coordination of a real world captain and it'll take up to 6 months to complete and should cover most parts which are simulateable. I wonder what it'll give...Greetz and looking forward to the BBal run, this time: no race please(to much "
May 7, 200323 yr Lenny,PIC Drivers at BAW virtual should be given the same sort of credence and respect as someone who is using PS1.3.
May 7, 200323 yr Hi Everyone;Lenny, I'm appauled by your sentiments about BAW pilots. By what account do you have to arrive at this inference that most of the BAW pilots are unqualified? Having flown for this airline for a little over a year now, I have nothing but good rapport for my fellow pilots. I do majority of my flying with these pilots and have not, at anytime, experienced any sort of bad piloting skills. Of course you'll have the newbies, whom once we all were, and we can understand them; they may not be at the top of their game( not that I am). And I'm not saying that your are using these newbies and a basis for your account. But saying " many fellow BAV pilots are seriously unqualified" still beats me.RegardsHasan".....I find man to be very much like the electron; always looking for the easy way out!...."
May 7, 200323 yr The events stated in my previous post were not my thoughts. They were sent to all BAV pilots in an email. They were actually a harsh way of saying: wake up you're all getting virtual flying lessons!!And I stand by my saying that some BAV pilots fly flights with little knowledge and indeed they must obtain experience somewhere. That's a fact, but some people just don't want to learn, they only want to get those hours for the highest rating. Saying 'unqualified' i meant that many of the BAV pilots don't know what a holding pattern is, how to fly in it, what speed it should be flown at. not going in detail but a simple knowledge about these things might come in handy if flying in very busy airspace online. You can imagine what i must become for controllers is they have to give each aircraft a lecture about how to go into holdings, perform procedure turns etc etc. I just cannot be easy, allmost impossible, to create a good separation with pilots malperforming the requested procedures. And that is the big problem with BAV, it's major hub IS situated in VERY busy airspace(when flying online) and about 200+ BAV pilots fly online so i find it quite normal for VATSIM-UK to send out a request to crank up the level of expertise among the pilots. My statements were never meant to 'crush' those newbie, no i have very much respect for them as they have made the step into the online flying world, but i DO think(and i think VATSIM and IVAO share the same opinion) that a minimum of effort in learning the basics is required. OF course this is rather becoming a discussion not suited here, and i'm sorry for raising that subject, that was entirely my fault. If you do however want to discus the issue of unqualified pilots on networks(not only BAV originating) you can always e-mail me at [email protected] As you are also a BAV pilot, i take it you also received the mail?Anyway, guys i just recovered my system from a 0xc0000218 crash(severe one) but ever since i did a 'registry recovery' my Fuel planner(by Rob, Wagner and Ilan) always gives me "cannot load dll" errors when using the automated functions. Can anyone give me help?Cheers

There is an option in Office setup to "Repair" installation - my experience with that is quit bad... just reinstall.Ilan Jonas
