July 7, 200322 yr hello !!! When I lived in miami I spent most of the time in a small parkin lot very close to the runway 09R, so close that u can even smell the burn of the tires, well it depends where the wind blows. that parking lot is now closed because the 9-11 but I started to go to the El Dorado Furniture parking lot, u see the aircrafts there around 50 ft above the runway. So here are some question that I ask myself when I saw some situation in KMIA1.I saw a A321 Air Jamaica taking off and the aircraft kept going with the gear down until around Miamis downtown, what happened there?2.This time was a 747-200 Iberia landing on runway 09R and the aircraft took almost the whole runway with the nose up, the speedbrake were up and with the reverse applied. headwind, right?3. A very traffic day, all the aircrafts were aligned to the runway 09r, (which Ive seen happend alot of times) A757 AA was aligned & descendin, suddenly the aircraft did a rough left turn ( the first I though, a GA) but later I saw the aircraft getting align to the runway again, could anyone tell me what happened there???Rafael NavarroYV
July 7, 200322 yr 1. Cooling brakes after holding a long time/braking a lot2. Depends on density alt, weight of aircraft, amount of reverse used or maybe ATC said "take last exit".3. Windshear? Or given runway change twice?Cheers[br][/img]

No one has been able to give me a good reason why this practice persists. Perhaps old habits die hard? :-)Cheers.Ian.

Increasing the total distance to the thus increasing time to the runway for traffic or any other unknown factor.Best Regards,
July 8, 200322 yr Hi,1) I agree with OBK, it seems like the brakes might have gotten a little warm after a prolonged taxi time...This technique will cool down the brakes quite rapidly. 2)I once flew on the jump seat in a SR 747 into JFK and the pilot kept the nose up for some time before letting it come down gently...the explanation was that he enjoyed doing it that way...Note that the spoilers and thrust reversers will activate automatically upon landing.3)several "could be's"...I was on the flight deck of an SR md-80during an approach when the aircraft in front of us, an b727 of IB did an abrubt turn ...The 727 speed was to high and he was quickly losing speed using this technique (a great way to frighten the passengers on board...)Could also be some freak wind or windshear event...enjoy your view onto 9R
