Nose Wheel Brakes?

Featured Replies

Hi I was wondering if brakes are installed in the nose wheel of a 767 or any other jet?? I just can't picture all that brake pressure being applied from a large plane to that small nose gear. Thank You :-wave

You are correct there are no brakes installed on the nose gear.Mark

I'm not aware of any nosewheel with brakes, from small singles up to big jets, but there are probably a few oddballs out there. Most nosewheels are quite small and wouldn't offer much braking traction.Lee Hetherington (KBED)

ALL B727s have nosewheel brakes ( From manufacture )The leg is designed to take the load and the brakes only become effective at 1/2 pedal travel,by that i mean the nose brakes supplement the mains and it was a selling feature of the B727 back in the late 1960s together with the triple slotted flaps for short field operation ( for the late 1960s that is )
