TCAS Aural Tone

Featured Replies

Is there an aural tone when the targets (yellow and red symbols)get too close to the 767?Terry

No, will possibly be incorporated later. That is if and when Lee has the 80 or so hours required to do it.Mike

I did not know if the system actually had one or not. ThanksTerry

May have misunderstood your question, yes the real deal has the aural warnings.Mike

ThanksTerry

I don't know if this link will help, Terry, but.....http://aerowinx.com/html/tcas.htmlIt's a different sim and a different aircraft, but the 767 has the same aural warnings as the 747-400.Cheers.Ian.

I started with that site, but most of the numbers they give for TCAS parameters are out of date. However, it does give a pretty good idea about how things work.Lee Hetherington (KBED)PS: Mike, I think 80h is an underestimate!

Nah,that's just for beta version 1.

BTW, can anyone get their hands on recordings of the 20+ aural messages TCAS can produce? I don't need them yet, but if work progresses on the internal logic I would need them for the gauge. If I can't get real ones, I'll have to do my best imitation myself. :(I know some of you have access to real aircraft. If possible, drop me an email.Lee Hetherington (KBED)

Just think how audio will enhance this already "Great" modification.Keep up the good work Lee.Terry

"BTW, can anyone get their hands on recordings of the 20+ aural messages TCAS can produce?"Definitely can't help you with this one, Lee, sorry. You can do complex tests using an external TCAS/ATC signal generator, but these tests literally take hours to complete especially if you haven't done one before ...and you would not be guaranteed a clear sound recording (most likely there would be someone talking in the background as the tests were taking place). All I've heard is the TCAS TEST.... TCAS TEST PASS(or FAIL) aural... the one generated when you select TEST on the control panel (This can be female or male, in a variety of accents.... The female one is nice, but the European-sounding guy has a super cool/suave accent, not what you'd expect... and generates the most laughs).Er.... and then there's the issue of copyrights ;-)Cheers.Ian.

At the moment I'm using your newest IVSI/TCAS and transponder package Lee while running the Ariane TCAS gauge in the background unseen, but when your TCAS detects a threat so does the Ariane gauge and I end up getting the aural warnings...Just wondering if there was any way to record the aural warnings from the Ariane gauge as it seems the male Euro voice is used in many of the real world TCAS systems and Ariane used the voice as did Richard Probst with his 727v3 and v4 panels (only for a test function on Richard's) and the voices are identical, so would it be a gray area legally? or perhaps setting up a mic to catch the sounds would be fine...lol...Don't know just thinking out loud.Regards,Van LatendresseYeoDesigns/AFG GroupPanel/FDE Designer

I won't be copying Ariane's sounds. I can assure you that.Someone sent me real-world recordings of all the TCAS sounds, except the test one, as used in a 757. They are perfectly clean recordings of an American female voice. If someone could get their hands on comparable sounds in the Euro male voice, maybe I could provide a kind of carrier option for the gauge. Now onto getting that TCAS logic with resolution advisories working!Lee Hetherington (KBED)

Lee, you might try an email to Ralph Tofflemire at www.panelshop.comI recall he fitted the Ariane TCAS to his RFP 742 panel and in the forum discussions afterwards mentioned that he had a large .wav file that had the complete TCAS aural output.Try your luck,AndyEGTR
