A boring discussion on a different forum has brought up an interesting question in my head.In our simulated world - we can do nearly anything in our 767's. Surely the FAA (or other governing bodies) would have stripped us of our "license" for landing and departing out of places like Alert, Cranbrook, and LAHSO operations at Burbank. The question comes out of a discussion regarding operations at San Francisco International. The post in question is listed below. The first paragraph in bold is that part to pay attention to.You got to remember we are simulating the real world here and the Takeoff Distances at Max Gross weight which is what you base which runway you request is based on.Heavy Aircraft Takeoff Distances (FAR 25, Sea Level).L1011 - 8070DC10 - 10370747 - 10450767 - 7800Now keep in mind that these runway lengths:1L 7000 ft.1R 8901 ft.28L 10600 ft.28R 11870 ft.Now although I claim to know a little about the 7110.65, the FAR's have never been my strong suit. Consulting with Mr. Boeing's website I find that these numbers appear to be approximately in tune with the performance data they have for takeoff at MTOW.As a pilot in command, do I have to base my request on my MAX GROSS (seems wrong) or my ACTUAL GROSS (TOW). I'm not sure why I need to subject my aircraft to performance limitations of a 767 weighing in at 350,000 lbs. when I actually weigh 285,000 (and often 265,000).I will greatly appreciate anyone who could answer the question for me. I also had the understanding (I could be wrong) that the minimums for runway length were based on the Airline specific SOP.I've departed runway 1L mentioned above dozens of times with TOW 300,000, flaps 15, and thrust derated. Never had a problem.
