PIC/POSKY Aircraft Lighting

Featured Replies

Hello, This is my first time using a PIC/POSKY merge aircraft(BA Union Flag), and the result is wonderful(thanks to Mike Bevington for helping me perform the merge!). The external model is great, and the detail is impressive. As usual, I have some comments/questions:I realise some compromises with lighting had to be made, given the limitations of FS. For example, the nose gear lights can only be turned on/off(independently of the wing landing lights) by means of the L key on the keyboard. Unfortunately, for those who want to operate the lighting systems according to the checklists, pressing the L key has the effect of either turning off or turning on ALL lights on the aircraft. If your Position Lights are already on when you press the L key, all lights will be turned OFF; otherwise, all lights will turned ON. My not-very-elegant workaround is to do the following:1.Turn on Position Lights(Elec Pwr established)2.Turn on Red/White Anti-Collision Lights(immediately prior to engine start)3. Turn on the Nose Gear Lights when ready for taxi(Taxi Lights are inop, so this is a compromise. Are the taxi lights colocated with the Nose Gear Lights, by the way?). To achieve this, press L twice, quickly(!), then CTRL-L to turn off Landing Lights. You'll probably also want to turn off the Strobes until airborne, because of the positioning problem with these lights. All of this leaves you with your Nose Gear Lights on, and your Landing Lights off.4. Press CTRL-L to turn on Landing Lights(entering active rwy)5.Turn on Strobes immediately after takeoff.I'm probably taking the "by the book" approach a bit too far here, but you can never get too realistic, as far as I am concerned. :-)Two more questions, if I may, both concerning lighting.1. I'm disappointed that the POSKY Gmax aircraft I downloaded has no cabin lights. The main fuselage looks very dark at night, despite the impressive external lighting. Can you tell me if any of the Gmax 767 aircraft have cabin lights?2. As you know, the PIC 767 main panel does not use the default FS night lighting, but its own, more realistic version. However, any gauges added to the panel don't benefit from this. I use Rob Barendregt's excellent pushback and taxi gauges to get around airports, but they are barely visible in the gloom! Is there any way around this problem?Sorry for being longwinded, and rather picky. I'm not complaining, just trying to discover little improvements for these already great products.Grateful for any opinions on any or all of the above. Thanks,Frank

Hi Frank,There is a taxi light mod in the Avsim file library (just do a search for PIC taxi lights) that will add a taxi light toggle to your PIC panel thus fixing your problem. You can also add various lighting effects to your posky or ifdg 767's. I've added nacelle and nose lighting splash effects for more realism as well as vc lighting so my flight deck looks lit up as it should at night. If you are not getting your tail and passenger windows to light up at night, then your display settings are probably not set up correctly ie; hardware lighting effects slider should be set to 8 (max) and your transform and lighting box should be checked.I've attached a few pics of the new GMAX ifdg763 model below with some of the lighting effects I've added, the same effects can be done to the Posky model, but it doesn't support wing views.I've also created a merge file for the ifdg763/PIC available from Bill Van Caulart's PIC Flying Club site...Just access the add-ons page if you are interested in the new ifdg763 model at all.http://www.czeg.org/pic767fc.htmRegards,Van LatedresseYeoDesigns/AFG GroupPanel/FDE Designer

Van,Your lighting effects are stunning!! Thank you for showing them to me.Unfortunately, I am not a designer, so have no idea how to achieve them :-((.Many thanks for the valuable information on the taxi light mod and my hardware settings(off to check them both out now).Yes, I am very interested in the IFDG plane and will certainly try the merge with the IFDG 763.Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. As everyone knows this is the only forum to visit when you've got a problem to solve(of the flight simulator kind, anyhow:-)).Frank

You are quite welcome Frank,When you get the ifdg763 model all set up, I'll send you the lighting coordinates and effects files if you would like. My email addy is below. Feel free to give me a shout any time :)Regards,Van LatendresseYeoDesigns/AFG GroupPanel/FDE [email protected]
