September 23, 200322 yr Hello all :-wave Getting ready to cross the Atlantic in my trusty 76 for the first time. Been studying up with what online information I can find, but want to know what real world charts (and where to get it) people are using for the North Atlantic part (with lats/longs, appropriate intersections, etc.). I usually get my charts through Sporty's and have all the US charts. I can find the high altitude charts for Europe area in their catalog and will be ordering those soon, but nothing that really seems to fit other than maybe a Global Navigation Chart (GNC3).Thanks in advance :-cool Travis Normandin
September 23, 200322 yr jeppesen North Atlantic Corssing charts you'll find them in the 'waste' baskets of lots of airlines flying the pond and they're good quality. suggest you get a couple of 3 and use pencil ONLY ... ;)Cheers
September 24, 200322 yr Travis, You can find North Atlantic crossing charts at this site:http://www.airsource1.com/ Rich
September 25, 200322 yr This site gives you the current North Atlantic tracks which are changed daily depending on wind. It also gives you the winds aloft etc. It also gives you the Preferred routes used when entering North America to get to certain specific airports. Very comprehensive site with a wealth of information:http://www.natroutes.glideslope.de/Also you can checkout the www.vatusa.org site and navigate to the area you want to fly to/depart from. They usually have preferred routes to/from those airports to/from airports in Europe.Good luck with your crossing. A bit of advice, try to do it on Vatsim with a friend. Its less boring that way.
September 25, 200322 yr Remember to download the program on the http://www.natroutes.glideslope.de/ site...!!!It lets you plan flights in a pro like matter...!Really something...It displays the NAT tracks, so you better can have an idea of which one to choose...Once you have done your first pro crossing you are hooked:)Boaz...
September 27, 200322 yr Congrats on your first cross. Sure brings on a new chapter to flying doesn't? I've flown across the atlantic -RW atleast 25 times- and in FS about 120. 120 is from 3 years of two crossings a week.I suggest getting FSnav, try w/o the reg first so that you can get it if you like. IT has a moving map feature which is REALLY cool, Also has all of the airport info and so on. Definately try it on Vatsim like said above, its really fun(fs wise) if you have Gander on so you can actually use FSselcall and have some guy respond to your reports at either 45min intervals or your waypoints, whichever is first. GOod luck"... AND I'M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!"[b/]
