March 4, 200422 yr "...also is the test button pushed on the ACARS printer to test it?"Usually only by accident when someone puts a heavy object on it ;-)Some of those test patterns generate an awful amount of (expensive) paper waste. I don't recommend doing it unless you have to... Also, I haven't found too many pilots/engineers who know how to replace the paper roll correctly after the old roll has been used up: Most people see half a dozen feed rollers on some printer types and don't realise that the paper is only fed underneath one of them. Figuring out which one is the hard part. None of them are very user-friendly. Some types you have to do a test print just to make sure the roll hasn't been put in upside down.I regularly check the paper feed visually, by opening the front cover, but I don't bother testing the printer... apart from a quick push of the SLEW button (the pilots will tell me soon enough if it's not printing properly ;-)).
