August 27, 200421 yr Hi AllThought I would share my initial multi monitor setup in my 767 Sim with you. For those who haven't tried multi monitors for PIC I strongly suggest you do....I'm now wishing I'd have done this many flights ago!! My setup still has a long way to go but at least I can now fly my sim after starting construction last November. Two configurations are shown.
August 28, 200421 yr >Hi All>Thought I would share my initial multi monitor setup in my 767>Sim with you. For those who haven't tried multi monitors for>PIC I strongly suggest you do....Ian,I could not agree more ... I have done the same thing as you with one exception - I added a 4th monitor that is dedicated to providing the FMC and Throttle Quad. I also use that monitor to toggle display of the overhead or communications panel. The 4th monitor is mounted in a floor-standing case that sits below and in-front of the right main instrument panel monitor. I'm using 19" monitors for the main instrument panels and a 17" monitor for the FMC/Throttle Quad. The two main instrument panel monitors are mounted on a stand that is angled back 20 degrees from vertical and with a height such that I look down over my PFC column yoke to see the displays. When I look straight ahead - I see over my MCP h/w and look directly at the outside view shown on another 19" monitor.-michael
August 28, 200421 yr Ian it looks nice.Would you tell us how you have your computers networked? Which computers are running WideFS and which FSWideview etc..Are you using three video card and one sim? Thanks
August 29, 200421 yr Hi BillAt the moment I'm only using one pc....an Athlon 2100, 512MB RAM, Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (outside view), two Nvidia TNT2 32MB cards for the 2D panels. My frame rates are mostly around 25... sometimes more sometimes less... but very flyable. My FMC CDU will run from the TV out on the Radeon. I do intend running extra computers...this is just a starting point so I can fly while I go....probably wideview for scenery etc.CheersIan
August 29, 200421 yr >Ian it looks nice.>>Would you tell us how you have your computers networked? Which>computers are running WideFS and which FSWideview etc..>Are you using three video card and one sim?>Bill,I'm also running on a single PC (although I do use a separate networked PC for AS2004, Radar Contact (Beta testing V4), FSTrafficLook, FSTime, and other miscellaneous stuff. As for video cards: I have a GeForce4 Ti4600 AGP 128 mb for the outside view; a GeForce4 FX5200 PCI 128 mb dual-head ($100) for my left/right MIP; a GeForce4 PCI MX440 64 mb single head ($50) for the FMC/Throttle Quad.My framerates vary from 9-30 (locked uppper bound), depending on weather and scenery with average around 15-20. Note also that I'm flying FS9 (since I'm Beta Testing Radar Contact V4).-michael
August 30, 200421 yr Hi MichaelYour setup details are interesting. Since I posted my pics I have had some annoying hangups that I never had before. Are there any rules for how things are displayed? For example do you know if is it OK to have some panels (2d panels) in window mode and others (scenery) in full screen mode? Any suggestions appreciatedCheersIan
August 30, 200421 yr Hi BillYes correct...there is only one AGP slot and the two TNT2 cards are pci.CheersIan

I have disabled h/w acceleration on the PCI cards (to prevent an audible and visible stuttering problem that seems to be unique to FS9).Let me know if I can help further ([email protected]).-michael
August 31, 200421 yr Hi guysI use 4 monitors on 3 cards on 1 machine. I edited the PIC767 panel.cfg using a panel editor to put all the gauges for each display on one bitmap that can be stretched as required. I have a 17" LCD at 45 deg over my head with the overhaed displayed in it. One more screen has the EADI, ND, ASI, RDMI, AND CLOCK only. So the EADI takes up 25% off the monitor. Another display has ECAS VSI and ALT with cancel/recal and a few other bits. Direct in front of my eye line is a 17" with a modified MCP and the forward view.As an other member has done I have an inverted 17" for the FMC/Throt quad.4 other PCs are networked for online comms WX generating and a few other bits. Im just about to start ordering the FDS panels for the full size sim.James
September 1, 200421 yr Hi JamesI'd be interested to get a copy of your panel.cfg (and any other associated gauges etc if there are any) Would you be able to email it to meMany [email protected]
September 6, 200421 yr Hi Ian,No problem. Im in work now will get it off to you in the next 24 hours. It works off the default PIC gauges.James

I like that idea. I had not done it before due to the cost of 17" flat panels. I see they have come down in price and it might be time to give it a try. ;-) I am currently using an old (and heavy)17" monitor and did not want to build a support structure for it.>One more screen has the EADI, ND, ASI, RDMI,>AND CLOCK only. Im just about to start ordering the FDS panels>for the full size sim.Are you having the panels sized to your dimensions or will you tweak your gauge sizes to match the "stock" panel dimensions?Another question: Did you have problems aligning the night-lighting bitmaps with the gauges? Getting that right was the toughest part for me.-michael
September 12, 200421 yr Hi Michael,FDS will make the panel to my monitor screen size taking into account the casing etc.Using the panel editor I litterally cut and paste the gauge to the the new backround. Sizing as I go. Its quite easy really. FS panel studio does all the hard work.Ive made a template from MDF and placed that in front of the screens and started a rough layout.Ill post some pics when Im nearer to some thing respectable.James
