December 27, 200421 yr Maybe a stupid question, but can you deploy the spoilers while in flight after flaps have been extended? Thanks.Aaron
December 27, 200421 yr You can yes.On an approach I was on into Nice a month ago with British Airways the spoilers where used during the flap extention to keep the speed down during a high rate of decent approach due to weather.
December 27, 200421 yr There isn't any airplane system logic which prevents you from deploying the spoilers with flaps extended. However, doing so can put excessive strain on the wing structure.I believe pilots are restricted from deploying spoilers if the flaps are extended more than a certain amount (sorry, can't remember the value). Pilots?Hope this helps.Cheers.Ian.
December 27, 200421 yr Hi,Use of spoilers is not allowed below 1000ft, and/or with flaps 25/30 selected.
December 27, 200421 yr >Use of spoilers is not allowed below 1000ft, and/or with flaps 25/30 selected. Is that the restrictions on the pilots, Maarten, or just the trigger for the aural warnings?(Don't know if I've mentioned this before, but..)I tried the flaps 25/30 selection in cruise in a big sim a few months ago, but, strangely, it did not trigger the warnings (not sure why).Cheers.Ian.
December 28, 200421 yr Hi Ian,It's not a physical restriction in that the system doesn't allow you to deploy the spoilers, because you will be able to use them. It's a procedure that is used by a large UK airline, but it's probably Boeing policy as well. When on approach and below 1000ft, you will get a visual warning on the panel though when the spoilers are used.
December 30, 200421 yr Here's a comment from one of the pilots on the LDS1 beta team (otherwise known as "Boeing Boy")...."IRL we tend not to use it over flap 15 as the vibration tends to wake the pax up on approach and they all start thinking they are doomed.":-lolCheers.Ian.
December 31, 200421 yr Also if u are still using spoilers passing 1000ft, i think you should reconsider landing :) Some airlines have as an SOP that u should be established on a powered approach passing a certain altitude. (altitude changes with different companies sops)cheers Terry
