True or magnetic?

Hi,Sicne using the IRS has limitations in terms of maximum latitude, how does that come into effect during a transatlantic flight.For example you're flying from Europe to the US west coast and your route takes you far north (say 75 degrees north), do you actually switch at one stage from magnetic heading to true heading? How does it work in operational terms?Cheers,Francois
