hiI only wanted to know how a step climb is done.e.g. the fmc calculates a step climb to 35000 in 1300 nm, the current cruising altitude is 31000.do I only have to change the altitude up to 35000 on the mcp (if yes, does it matter when?) and everything's gonna work fine or do I also have to change the altitude values in the fmc? does vnav do everything or is the stcl. done with flch?thx for your answersRobert

As far as I know (and please correct me if I am wrong, someone) if you plan to make the step climb as scheduled, you enter it in the FMC ahead of time (just like preparing for descent). When you get to where the FMC says it's okay to make the climb, enter the new FL into the FMC and hit execute and the VNAV will kick in and take you on up.At least that's how I do it in my bird. Also if you are using ATC for IFR, don't forget to request the FL change lest they yell at you LOL.

Once you reached your step climb distance (watch for the FMC say: Step to whatever: NOW) then you change the altitude in the MCP and the corresponding value will appear automatically on the FMC, just to punch it on the VNAV cruise altitude spot.
