GPS Approach in FS2002

Featured Replies

I use FS2002 and would like to know the capability and technique for making a GPS approach. Is it possible and how is it done?I have only flown ILS in FS2002. If not possible or practical, is it in any other flight sim programs?

If you have the GPS APP chart for that airport you could create it in the flight planer in FS2002, only thing is you need to make sure that is the active runway when you get to that airport.FS2004's GPS does have some APPs built in to it.

Thanks Dave, I have let the autopilot fly the FS Navigator flight plan right down to landing. But in the real world, if a pilot elects to do a gps, and gets tower permission, can he set in the GPS coordinates and have the approach glideslope show up in his instruments and fly down to the runway manually following the instruments, like he would with an ILS active?Or, would he just leave the autopilot on until over the end of the runway and then disengage and take over?Or another way of asking, if I would go to a runway that did not have an ILS could I just set in the GPS coordinates and have a glide slope display to follow to landing? Like in a military situation at a remote location.I am just trying to understand exactly what is a GPS approach vis-vi an ILS.Bob>If you have the GPS APP chart for that airport you could>create it in the flight planer in FS2002, only thing is you>need to make sure that is the active runway when you get to>that airport.>>FS2004's GPS does have some APPs built in to it.
