November 23, 200421 yr What are the frame rate hits when flying on the VATSIM network?I've never noticed any because my system is fairly new.But a friend of my would like to register and start flying on VATSIM and he's wondering about it.It shouldn't cause a frame rate hit right?Shouldn't it only be lag he would deal with and not really any frame rate hits on his system? The other question he had was that since he lives and mostly flys in Venezuela, Caribbean and Central America too that there is not frequently staffed positions in those areas. To tell the truth I really never if look down there as I usually fly the US.Are those areas staffed much?He said someone suggested IVAO to him. He said that person tols him that they cover that area more often.
November 23, 200421 yr Never heard "frame rate hits", but just "frame rate".This is just according to my own experiece, the frame-rate you fly your own airplane is almost the same as off-line. The frame-rate you see other airplanes is true 5 seconds between each position update, but it's implement a smoothing algorythm to see airplanes move smooth in not exact real position.Use the freeware ServInfo http://www.avsim.com/hangar/utils/servinfo and you can se ATC area in realtime both on Vatsim and IVAO.There is always ATC in South America, say 30% of U.S.I observe Vatsim and IVAO as approx similar ATC occupation all the world.Lennart Vedin SAS202
November 24, 200421 yr Is it really five seconds in between movements of other aircraft?Other aircraft do not move real "smoothly" for me.So you think that there is ATC in Venezuela and areas around there much?
November 24, 200421 yr > Is it really five seconds in between movements of other aircraft? No thats not what I mean.In more detailes, how I understand while observe.New data about other airplanes such as position, speed, direction, turns are sent to your computer every 5 seconds. From that information, Squawkbox in your computer calculate how Squawkbox think the airplane will move. That means other airplanes are moving every single frame-rate in your FS.In addision it just mean the moving are corrected every 5 seconds and if an other pilot start a turn, you see it 5 second later by a little jump.> So you think that there is ATC in Venezuela and areas around there much?Look ServInfo, it's just to download and free.Lennart Vedin SAS202
November 24, 200421 yr As far as frame rates, you will see a little slow down, as more of the computer power is being pulled away from FS for SB and SBRelay. However its really not that much, if FS runs well off line then its not a big deal. If FS really makes the computer work, there maybe more of a slow down.ATC in Venezuela check out this http://www.vatsam.org/home/
