June 14, 200520 yr I really enjoy flying online but it sure seems like there are a lot of planes and airports out there not under ATC control. Why isn't it possible to have unicom frequencies on the voice servers so we could at least report our positions and landing intentions? Even better if the range could be limited to 50nm or so so that all the traffic on the unicom would at least be local/regional. Has anyone worked on this? ThanksDavid
June 14, 200520 yr Hi David,There is a Unicom on 122.80. However due to server limitations it will only propagate voice to others on the same server (but they will be all over the world). If you use text, which is what Vatsim recommends, then it will go to every pilot within a limited range (not sure exactly how much) regardless of server. There are plans to develop the system so that Unicom can be used as a local voice system, but it's still in the early stagesRuth McTigheDeputy Director, VATSIM-UK
