ZLA Challenge - February 26th!

Featured Replies

Leave the heavy tin on the wheel blocks and come join the fun as ZLA is proud to announce the second ZLA Challenge! On February 26th, pilots will begin their five-leg journey at one of the airports below that correspond with the first letter of his or her last name and continue the circuit, ending where they departed initially. For example, if you started at KLGB (last name starting with L through Q), the next leg will be Palomar, then Fullerton, and so on.Featured airports (Last names should fall within the range of letters given in the brackets for each airport):Torrance (KTOA) [A-F]Avalon (KAVX)* [G-K]Long Beach (KLGB) [L-Q]Palomar (KCRQ) [R-V]Fullerton (KFUL) [W-Z]*Uncontrolled Airport. The "one in, one out" procedure for all IFR aircraft inbound KAVX will be usedWhat's the Challenge? We thought you would ask! Rain or shine, visual approaches will seem to be 'non existent' to these airports unless the controller deems it necessary to assign one. What does that mean? Well, pilots are expected to fly the available routes (listed below) and the assigned nonprecision/precision approaches associated with the airport. ALL pilots should expect the same procedure. With that said, pilots are strongly urged to practice these approaches prior to the day of the event due to the expected volume of traffic into these smaller fields. So,hop in your favorite GA airplane and be prepared to expect the thrill of these exciting approaches and top notch ATC service! Are you up for the challenge?Visit http://laartcc.org/event/info/15 for more (and important) pilot information including specific routing and charts!See ya on Sunday, February 26th!
