PFC Throttle Quadrant with GoFlight - Any snags?

Featured Replies

There's a note on the PFC site that use of GoFlight panels with PFC hardware can cause lock-ups. At first sight I was sceptical as I can see that PFC would love folks to spend several thousand dollars on their avionics kit rather than several hundred on the GoFlight option. As it happens, I have some GoFlight panels and I was considering the purchase of a PFC throttle quadrant. I just wondered if anyone is using this combination and whether they had any experiences to report. It would be a rather expensive mistake to order the PFC throttles and end up having to junk the GoFlight stuff.ThanksAndyEGTR

I have not noticed any problems. I talked to GoFlight and they said they were aware of the note on the PFC site but they were running a test setup with PFC equipment and had no problems. As I said I have had no problems, both system work as advertised. One more note: I am using the GoFlights panels for radio/navigation use. I guess you could run into problems if you were using the GoFlight flap and gear unit as PFC Throttle Quadrant operates the flaps and gear also. Regards, Bill

Thanks for the reassuring reply Bill. The order is about to be sent. CheersAndyEGTR

hi, I was thinking of ordering the throttle console too. How do you like it? Do you know off hand (before I call them on Monday) if you can use that with CH Yoke and pedals(usb). Thanks for any info....Rob

Rob,Sorry for the late reply, but I've only just seen your post - hope it's not too late.Second question first. The answer is an unqualified 'yes'. I was in some doubt about this too, so I emailed Peter Dowson who wrote the PFC.dll that is used to configure the PFC stuff. All you need to do is ensure that you completely remove the throttle, prop and mixture axes from the CH Yoke within FS2K2 so that there's no conflict. I absolutley love the PFC throttles. I really could never go back to a joystick-based throttle system. There's nothing quite so satisfying as grabbing a big handful of 4 throttles and setting take-off thrust . The much greater range of travel allows for very precise inputs such that you can accurately move from 89%N1 to 94%N1 if that's what's required. Moving a lever to arm the spoilers or engage reverse is also extremly rewarding.I have the 4-jet quadrant and the PFC software enables the configuration of this as a standard 4-throttle quad or as up to 3 user-defined throttle quads. With 6 levers to play with, you almost don't need any other quads, although I would quite like to get the turbo-prop quad as that has distinct detents for flight idle etc. Using my own configs, I've got a version for flying big turbo-props, single-engine GA (throttle/prop/mixture) and one for GA twins. Works great. Flying Oleksiy Frolov's Dash-8 with this throttle is a positive delight. With the 4-jet quad, you can fly aircraft with less than 4 engines - the extra levers are ignored.Possibly minor detail, but the gear and flap controls are similarly excellent and the whole construction reminds me of an early WW2 Russian tank! I think you could drop it from 50 feet onto a concrete floor and it'd come up smiling Expensive, but worth ever penny.Hope that helps,AndyEGTRHope that helps

Thanks!!! Not too late, I was on vacation for just over a week and called them just before we left. Didn't leave a message on their answering service though. I had planned to call tommorrow with the question but on your answer I'll just order it.Thanks again!!!Rob

I am afraid I cannot help you with the PFC quadrant. But I have one from Flight-Link working perfectly together with 7 GoFlight units. I am also 100% satisfied with the feel and quality of the quadrant (2 engine prop), and it offers rev thrust. For more info go here: www.flight-link.com.It says there is no stand-alone version, only an EPIC version, however for a little extra cash you will get a little USB adaptor box which makes the quadrant work with FS2002 and XP, just ask them.Alex
