2 Monitors on one same computer

Featured Replies

Anybody, What I want to do is display 2 monitors using one same computer. Would a video card that is already slotted in the computer and computer own build up monitor port be able to display two at a time using Project Magenta's PFD/ND? If so, would that seprate up the progress if I want to zoom ND on captain side and the ND on co-pilot side wouldn't zoom in too? Otherwise, could you share any suggestion to those who experienced using PFD/ND using 2 monitors on one computer, let me know

You'll need 2 videocards or one video card with the possibility to connect to 2 monitors.Regards,Pedro

Hi Pedro, Thanks for replying.... Okay 1 or 2 video card connecting two monitors and using Microsoft win 98's multimonitors program is that correct?

Yes, don't forget that there's no 3d acceleration on the second video card.Regards,Pedro

You can get multi-monitor support with acceleration on both monitors. The trick is to make the OS think that the 2 monitors are in fact one large one. I'm doing this right now with a Dual-Head ATI card. The OS (Win2K) thinks the screen is 2048x762, both screens are accelerated. I run PM PFD/ND on one, and the engine display on the other, and both are fully accelerated under Open GL.Dave

The response I gave was for 2 videocards, not one.Regards,Pedro

Hi PedroI understand that you were referring to a second card, I was just pointing out that you can get multi-monitor acceleration. Note also that under XP and Win2K you can accelerate multiple monitors running from multiple cards (XP makes this quite easy I understand), so in fact you can accelerate with separate cards. Here's a useful linkhttp://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/faq.asp#DirectXRegardsDave

Pedro and Dave, Say, If I am going to use 1 video card (geforce2) and the mobo's monitor port (Using same computer). I suppose, monitor 1 is going to be connected to mobo's monitor port using PFD/ND (captain side). Monitor 2 would be connected to GeForce2 video card using PFD/ND on co-pilot's side. Would that make a good acceleration, and display different at co-pilot and captain's options? For example, if I want to zoom in/out the ND on captain side, the display on co-piloy wouldnt get to zoom in/out same time. Or would you recommend PFD/ND (Captain) and ECIAS using same computer, and the PFD/ND (co-pilot) using other computer let me know what your opinion are....

regarding tsecond card acceleration, I am using win98... would that still work if I am not using win2K or XP?

No, unless you use a dual-head card. For multi-monitor acceleration with separate cards, you need Win2K or XPDave

If you are talking about PM PFD/ND, then I'd run pilot and co-pilot on separate machines, unless you are using Win2K or XP. I'm not sure whether both would accelerate with what you decribe, it depends to some degree on what the onboard chipset is (for video).Regarding resizing, the window that resizes would be the one that has focus when the keystrokes were sent. Doesnt really have much to do with how many monitors you have installed.Dave

Try to download the demos at www.projectmagenta.com and see if your card runs fine.Pedro
