July 18, 200322 yr Following suit with keyboard hacking, here is a report on how to disassemble a mouse and create your own incremental quadrature encoder for about $5.http://www.boondog.com/tutorials/mouse/mouseHack.htmRoberthttp://www.777Project.cjb.net
July 19, 200322 yr Hmmm... interesting. But one question... what is a "incremental quadrature encoder "?-mitch
July 19, 200322 yr Mitch,"Incremental" just means that the encoder provides an indication that a move of a given step size has been made, but no indication what the absolute position is. "Quadrature" refers to the 90 degree phase relationship between the two outputs. There are absolute encoders that provide an n-bit output that breaks the encoded field into 2 to the n-th chunks. For example, a five bit absolute rotary encoder divides the 360 degree rotation into 32 chunks of 11.25 degrees each. Each has it's advantages. Incremental encoders are less expensive and quite adequate for multi turn inputs used as panel controls.Mikewww.mikesflightdeck.comInfo for simpit builders
