August 4, 200322 yr Hello,Thanks to the (somewhat alarmist) recent article in Salon.com about flight simulators and terrorism, I discovered your amazing world of homebuilt cockpits! Ever since then I've been drooling over the homebuilt sim pix on the web that seem to be in no short supply... I participated in the design and construction of a crude driving simulator for my Master's thesis, but the flight sims you guys have constructed are absolutly amazing! I've been interested in aviation and simulation for awhile but after getting an idea of what's possible, have finally decided to get serious about it. Much to my wife's chagrin, I think I've found a new hobby...Although I have some experience with commercial and military simulators, I am approaching the home experience as a newbie. I used to play with Jane's Longbow a few years back, but have pretty much dropped PC sims up until now. I'm starting to outline a multi-year, 3-phase plan that will eventually result in a reasonably sophisticated, full-enclosure, external projection sim but I'm still quite early in the process. (Will probably be purchasing MSFS 2004 ACOF in the next week or so unless someone convinces me to get X-Plane instead...)Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and give you warning that I plan on hanging around these boards for awhile asking lots of questions. I'll try to do my homework before posting, but I'm quite new to this world so please excuse my inevitable greenie questions...Thanks!-William
