Yet another newbie...

Featured Replies

Hi fellow-simmers,yet another newbie on the stage of cockpit buiding ...To make an unforgettable entry :-) I'll start with these items:* a brief intro on myself (who cares, but anyhow);* a simple question;* a simple offer. Here we go with the intro:Harry's half a century old Dutchman, flying since FS95 for some hours a week. During FS98 I felt a growing need for switches instead of keystrokes. Reading an article about remote controle of keyboards (!) I discovered the simple beauty when hacking one myself: the first panelswitches came to life. Later on I figured out a simple electronic circuit to build toggle (i.e. pulse) switches, as for lights, strobes or landing gear. However, I never passed the input-only stage: still I'm dreaming of reading out flight parameters and use them for indicating instruments in my cockpit. This is why I'm a happy man right now: I just recently discovered the AvSim forum: what a tremendous source of wisdom, inspiration and motivation! I already got a lot of answers these days. Fortunately there are plenty of questions left...A simple question:Browsing the AvSim forum I came across an enormous variety of abbrevations which (being a newbie ...) I often could not figure out myself: is there any place where one can find a short summary or kind of 'dictionary' on specific FS-terminology ?Furthermore: does anyone have experience in building a cockpit with a crew of people ? It seems to me that for example sharing space, money, tools, gear, ideas, knowledge, tears, tension and pleasure could also improve the results of our efforts.A simple offer:As it took me some time to think out and improve the toggle-switch circuit mentioned above I would like to share the result with any keyboard hacker who's in need. Just let me know. I could mail a drawing, or I could put it on a website. What is the common procedure anyhow ?I'm looking forward to your first answers. Meanwhile I enjoy being part of this community.Goodfeeling HarryS.
