August 29, 200322 yr Looks very good, Alex. What are your next steps. (besides flying)Mikewww.mikesflightdeck.com
August 29, 200322 yr Very cool to see Alex! I'm starting a similar project (I'll make a seperate post) and I wonder if I might ask you a few questions about your construction? What materials did you use (especially the top of the dashboard)? It looks like you have a pretty good chair. How does it compare comfort-wise to a real plane seat and a standard office chair?Do you have any daytime shots so we can get a better look at the construction?Really nice work!!
August 29, 200322 yr Love the gratuitous use of Go Flight hardware! Really makes for a sharp layout. Project looks great!Roberthttp://www.777Project.cjb.net
August 30, 200322 yr Alex, Looking good my friend! I can't wait to come fly it someday.Ken PeckhamCEO B&B [email protected]"We Put You in the Left Seat"
August 30, 200322 yr Mike,as you can see from the pics one of the monitors is rotated with a 768x1024 resolution. Due to changes in the multi monitor thingie this cannot be done in FS9. So I am in for a complete rebuild. I was thinking about putting a 15' TFT touchscreen inside the main cockpit and simply let the other monitor dissapear. Get those throttle sup there. But for now I have called off all changes because with all my add-ons and the probs FS9 still has it would not be worth it. Sooner or later I will take the plunge though. For now I consider the sim as ready. I have more buttons available than functions to control :-). I thought abotu cutouts for the instruments but that would make it a lot less versatile. With this thing I can fly any twin. All I do is make 2 new panels for the 2 monitors and voila what once was a Seneca now is a C310.Alex
August 30, 200322 yr Chris, the whole cockpit including the dashboard is made of fibreglass and than covered with leather. It has a lot more possibilities as you can make those bends and curves. If you would like to do that with wood you would be grinding yourself to death. Also it is very light and easy to disassemble. I was moving a few month ago and to set it back up in the new house only took me an afternoon. The seat is from an old sportscar which I got at e-bay for very little money. It has a pumb that blows some thing up in your back. Very comfortable, and I think very much alike with what you could find in one if the better GA planes. I can very much recommend it if you spend a lot of time in the cockpit :-). It is about 4 times as comfortable as an office chair. Here is the closest I can do for an overall daytime shot. Yes, that is me on one of the pics working the
August 30, 200322 yr Robert,>>>Project looks great!sure nothing close to the show you put up on your website. I sure wish I had the skill to do stuff like that.Alex
August 30, 200322 yr Alex,Thanks man :-) It's certainly a growth process... That's why I keep the "Past Project Webs" section on my web sites. So you can see the transition from "Front Page templates" to Java, to Photoshop, etc. Many new skills are aquired as you go and many times you wont even think about it .Best of luck with your project!Robert
August 30, 200322 yr I must say this has completely made me rethink the wood box construction I originally planned on. After all, the components are all quite light. In order to do most of the work, I was envisioning having to travel to my brother's place an hour away for a couple of weekends. This way I can do all of the work here at the apartment.I do have an extra monitor and PCI video card laying around. I was trying to figure out a good way to bring up FSNAV and such. I just have to find a good way to mount it at an angle in a floor standing box. Thanks again! You've really got the gears turning in my head.
