Intercom system ideas?

Featured Replies

Hi!Planning for a future intercom system. I just wonder if there is anyone who has built this.My idea is that both pilots use headsets, regular computer headphones with microphones. These should be connected and the pilots can hear their own voice and each other. Radio comm (Roger Wilco ATC, instructor station, etc.) should be heard for both pilots and 2 push to talk buttons (ptt) should isolate of one of the microphones, depending of which of the buttons that is pressed. Also volume controls for intercom chat and for radio comm.Example:Pilot A talks to and hears Pilot B in the intercom with adjustable volume. ATC talks to both Pilots, but only the pilot who presses the PTT is heard on the radio. Lets also say Pilot B cant keep his mouth shut, so Pilot A can turn the Intercom volume down, and the radio volume up, and everyone is happy :-)Any ideas?/ Olle

Hi Olle,Sounds like a real aircraft audio panel. RST-Engineering has a kit, but even a kit is rather expensive. It shouldn't be too difficult to make one. RST-Engineering has an article on how to make an intercom that might be of interest: http://www.rst-engr.com/rst/magazine/PP78JUL.pdf Mikewww.mikesflightdeck.com

But I think in real GA planes at least it doesnt isolate the mics. You can rather hear everyone on the radio if they cannot be quiet.Tuomas

Depends on the model. Some high end units for GA provide some separation so chatty passengers can carry on conversations among themselves without distracting the pilot (who is undoubtedly silently swearing he will never take his mother-in-law along again)Mikewww.mikesflightdeck.com

Hehe, true. :-)Though one can always pull the mic plug for them :^)/Tuomas
