September 18, 200322 yr Spent the Afternoon knocking these up:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/37701.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/37702.jpgThe Pedals are attatched to the Metal Bar via a set of door hinges.I have threaded a piece of bungee cord thru the pedal and metal bar, to return the toe brakes to the upright position when the brakes are not in use - however the design need some refinement, as when I touch the pedals at all they depress slightly.I have only tried the rudder mechancism out during construction, and so far all seems okay - need to get a couple of lock nuts. The bungee cord centering system works well.Next Stage is to refine the brakes, stop it from sliding around the carpet and hook up the electronics.Any ideas for how to wire up the brakes greatly appreciated.
September 18, 200322 yr Hi Mark,A little hard to see the action from the angle of your picture, but from what I gather, it looks like the connection point of the white bungee cord is a bit too close to the fulcrum point of the hinges on the pedals. If you can lower the attachment point of the bungee, or even add an extra piece behind the pedal that extends that connection then you will get a better force and feel. Right now with the connection so close to the hinge, you don't have the leverage and either increasing the force of the bungee or changing the connection point would help.Best of luckKenDakenSkys
September 18, 200322 yr Hi Ken,basically the pedals are attatched to the hinges near the bottom, with the bungee attatched about the same place. If I was to make larger pedals, with the fulcrum set just below the half way point, and the bungee anchored near the bottom, would this work.ThanksMark
September 18, 200322 yr Hi Mark,Yes, you are correct. The further away from the fulcrum point, the greater the leverage.Without getting into a lot of formulas...unless you want them...See my simple sketch, which should explain better than just words.KenWell...there seems to be a problem uploading my diagram.I can e-mail to you directly if you want.
