September 25, 200322 yr Olle,Microsoft has a list of links to various font sources, some free, many not. Still, it's a place to start.http://www.microsoft.com/typography/default.mspxMikewww.mikesflightdeck.com

But since the site seems to be insanely slow again, I just uploaded my copy of this font on my site. This is the font used on many military planes and it just looks like "cockpit" :) - it is not perfect, the author states he traced it from a printed example and it doesnt have all letters, but it might be useful anyway. Makes good looking GA panels at least :)I think Boeing uses Futura in their panels, but Futura is a commercial font. Might come with some graphics programs even though.http://tigert.gimp.org/vatsim/cockpit-stuff/MS33558FONT.ZIPAn example:http://tigert.gimp.org/vatsim/cockpit-stuf...topconsole5.jpgTuomas
September 26, 200322 yr Tuomas,Is that your panel in the picture. Looks very nice. I was just curious about the Key switch. Does it have all switch positions available? I have one but it has only 3 positions with a spring return at the 3rd position. So I am looking for a KEY SWITCH with 5 contact positions for ; "OFF, L, R, Both, & start w/spring return", and haven't been able to find one for a resonable price. Can you tell me the manufacture of the switch that's in the picture? One that I have was made by Grayhill. Thanks & Best regards.Sean W.

That's a cheapo 12-position rotary switch that has a key glued to it :) The movement is limited to 5 positions, but naturally it doesnt return from "start". Doesnt hurt much in the use anyway though.I bet it wouldnt be too hard to do a mechanical switch that uses a rotary as the backend and then had an "arm" that swings when you rotate, and there would be a spring on the 5th position that pushes it back, it just needs to be stronger than the rotary switch "click" force. On the "front" you would then have a simple door lock (those are a lot cheaper than real key switches)Of course a real Cessna ignition switch costs around $50-60 at www.aircraftspruce.com.Tuomas
September 26, 200322 yr Hi Olle,The Boeing panels use Futura Md Bt font for some of the panels, and also use Futura Md Cn Bt font for others. The main difference between the two "Cn" which stands for Condensed, is used for panels that have a lot of wording that has to fit in smaller areas, so the same "style" font is used but the condensed version squeezes the letters together. You'll have to look closely at each real panel to determine which font is being used.Sometimes both fonts are used on the same panel!Regards,KenDakenSkys
