November 26, 200322 yr Hi guys! I have been reading everything I can on home cockpits for a few weeks now. I'm working on convincing my father that this would be a fun project for the both of us to work on.My first question right now (and I'm sure I'll have more) is... what are my options as far as the 'outside display'? I have a good idea of how to do quite a bit of the rest of it, but this one is puzzling me.I know some use projectors, but at first glance this option seems to be far too expensive. How about using televisions? 27" TVs (even flat-screened ones) are about $250 each, so three of those next to each other would still be only $750 (a fourth of the cost of a projector). Problem there, of course, is that they weigh about 100 lbs each, so you'd need some serious bracing to make sure they stayed there! Also, you'd have the distraction of having the 'black' frame around each television.. but I would think that using some clever cockpit design (putting a 'spar' down the 'windshield' to obscure it) you could work around that. How about visual quality? Some messages I have found have say that TVs with scan converters have very poor quality... but I suspect that as TV technology has improve,d perhaps this is no longer the case?
