Bulk Purchase of Rotaries for Aussie Builders

Featured Replies

Hey you Aussie builders out there, would appreciate any interest on the following.I'm calling to find any interest for builders that reside in Australia if they wish to purchase rotary encoders that are compatible with the REDec circuit.I have been informed the following rotary is compatible for the REDec circuit in Australia. I know how hard it is for us to get something like the Knitter switch, so this will be our best alternative.Below is a comparison of how much cheaper it is if the quantities are higher.Farnell Part No. 109113 - Bournes 24 Cycle Digital Output POT.1 - $13.0925 - $10.1650 - $8.32100 - $7.02I have also attached a spreadsheet showing the pricing of the REDec components available here from local retailers. Please contact myself at [email protected] if you wish to join in on the purchase. I will follow up with yourselves as soon as I get some interest built up.Kind Regards,

Just before you dive into that one Brad, Have you tried sourcing the ALPS Rotary pulse switches in OZ, I am not sure what they are worth here yet I am trying to find a source for them here, I have tracked down a distributor but have not called them yet (Switches Plus).Check these guys out for other types of indicators & switches too.http://www.switchesplus.com.au/Just found them on the net last night. The ALPS part no's are SRBM1L0800 or SRBM1L1400 the difference being an 18tooth serrated shaft or D type shaft, they are a 20 position unit like the knitters but look to be of better quality & might come with a bloody mounting nut!!I am preferring to go pulse type switches just due to less circuit building, & the simplicity of connecting them up.The REDec is a great solution if you have a really cheap source (like free or surpluss) for the phase shifted rotaries.Glenn.

Thanks Glenn, I'll check them out!Just an update, I just got an email back from the Australian distributors or this rotary and I can get them for $4.60 ea but I must buy them in lots of 45. Much better huh?Kind Regards,BRAD HELLER

Brad, I presume you are talking about the Bournes unit for $4.60ea, I am waiting on an email from Tenrod who is a distributor here for ALPS, Switchesplus couldn't help me & he suggested to try Tenrod.I will update you when I get some info.Cheers Glenn.

Hi Guys. Why don't you check out www.switchchannel.com. I paid $1.47USD each for their RE11 rotary encoders. they come with a push button switch.Cheers,Jim

Thanks Jim, I'll check them out.Did you use those rotary encoders with REDec?BRAD.

I got an email from Tenrod (http://www.tenrod.com.au)They quoted $23.00ea (Qty 20) & $15.74ea (Qty 100) for the ALPS rotary pulse. Pricing is ex GST & wait time is 8-9Weeks, a little pricey I guess, how much does it cost to produce the REDec circuit Brad ?Glenn.

The REDec is only about $3.60 for the components excluding the PCB.BRAD
