A320 MCDU

Featured Replies

Hi,This is my almost finished MCDU unit. Sorry for the low quality images ... I'm experiencing some problems with my camera. I made some extra panels, so probably I will be selling them. They come with electronics built in, including backlite and one customized FSKey board. Everything was made at home. There are some minor details that will be finished soon ... Like the screen sides and the BRT button and writing.Thanks,Caduhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/52829.jpg

Hi CaduIt looks very nice.I would be very interested in buying one, what will the pricetag be?RegardsPeter

Hi,By the end of this year the website of the project will be finished and it will have more details about it ... The price is US$ 500.00 including all the electronics (FSBUS customized or keyboard like - 5" lcd display not included, I'm using the Legacy LS5C from audio blowouts for just US$65.00) and the backlite ... Soon I will take some more detailed photos with the complete panel and with all the lights lit (mcdu menu and fmgc fail) ...Thanks,Cadu

Hi CadumThanks for the info. But I think $500 is a bit overpriced with no lcd display included. So I'll pass on that.regardsPeter

True, and with 5" LCD prices not breaking 3 digits, it may well be worth including them as then the buyer doesn't have to source their own LCD. Maybe $350 all in with no LCD sounds reasonable, at the buyer will then have to buy their own LCD and incorporate it themselves, which can be a bit tricky to the inexperienced. But that all depends on the build quality etc.

Hi,Thanks for the feedback. I will probably sell them as a complete set, with everything working. The panel is 99% scale and everything is hand made ... It really looks like the original one ...The problem is the bad image quality ...Please don't misundestand me ... I made them because I thought FDS panels are not real enough ... And it is also harder to construct ... They are made of epoxi resin with glass components and all the buttons are gel coated and can be backlit.Sorry for the price, but I took almost an year to finnish them and to acquire the proper technique. I think it worth it ...Thanks,Cadu

In my humble opinion, $500 is not bad considering the CDU is one of the most important parts of any simulator. After having spent countless hours assembling other CDU units, I can easily see how the price can be justified. Even competition would probably double the price on an assembled unit!Keep in mind the work/parts it takes to light each letter and make this unit easy to wire!!This unit looks to be very slick! Please upload more pictures when you can.My friendly opinion,Roberthttp://The777Project.com

I'm not saying the price is bad. It's just more than I am willing to pay, even though it's an important part. The price for a HBC is already sky high so I guess there is nothing wrong with keeping new expences as low as possible. With the FDS, which IMO is good quality, I can make it myself for $380 including a 5" lcd screen. Thats the simple reason I wrote that I thought $500 was too much. But I sure hope you sell some units Cadum, considering the time you have spent building them.Best regards, and Merry Christmas to you all.Peter

I too would interested with the LCD attached...Can you post the dimensions in inches as a few of these are avaialble in all different sizes...I am using FDS dimensions...

How can you guys even THINK of comparing this beautiful FMS with an FDS type ???This one is REAL 3D, it has backlit keys - i

Hi Cadu!Nice work!!!Im really interested in how you accomplished this awesome MCDU.Will you share your techniques on backlighting buttons, molding and hwo to custom fit the buttons in the panel? Im so qurious on how you did it so good/ Olle RamsbergSweden

First of all...please dont make this a clash of products. To me it's about cost of products...>How can you guys even THINK of comparing this beautiful FMS>with an FDS type ???>It sure can be compared...they do exactly the same!!>This one is REAL 3D, it has backlit keys - i

Hi,About costs concerning cockpit building! I think everybody has different target about idea

Thanks again ... As I said before, I'm trying to push the limits to see what I'm capable for. I don't think that if they do the same thing they can be compared. What would you prefer: a Ferrari or an old chevy .... (there is nothing related to the MCDU, PLEASE !)I'm only saying that I'm the home cockpit builder with hobbist tought but not rich ... So I made some and maybe I can sell them to help me to finnish my project, that's all.I'm not saying that FDS CDU unit are not real ... I'm only saying that I tried to build one more realistic ...Thanks a lot for the support ... About the dimensions :14.35 x 23.2Cadu
