January 11, 200422 yr It all boils down to 3 things: Cost, simplicity, and availability.Cheapest are those you build yourselves. These include FSBus and IOCard. EPIC tends to be the most expensive.Simplicity depends on a couple of things too. Most important is the actual hardware itself, as it either has to be built or programmed. FSBus and IOCard usually have to be built, but there are people out there who will happily do this for a modest fee, and for EPIC, which is pre-built, you have to program the software too!Availability too is down to a couple of things. Most importantly is your place of residence, as it may be hard to obtain certain bits if you live in the Antarctic! EPIC boards are pre-built and can be purchased from several retailers, but even better are the components you build yourself, as you can buy the parts from just about anywhere that sells electronics. In my own opinion I prefer FSBus as they're cheap, easy to make, and you can be flexible with the components you need too. Software is provided, but you do have to flash the boards first, and it does take a bit of settng up too.
