January 21, 200422 yr Hello guys,First of all : my setup is working good.I am using Wideview for my outside views. The way it is working good is because I am using a network update rate of 53 instead of 5 or 15 ( IPX ).Since I began with WV in 1999 I had this issue. When using 5 or 15 FS is runnign several seconds on the client pc's and then pausing for several seconds. The higher the update rate , the shorter the pauses. At 53 no pauses anymore.Wideview 2004 will approach the network differently and the update rate cannot be changed anymore. And will be to low for my setup. In the mean time I have other motherboards , other Lan cards. Only the switch is the same .I had the opportunity to try another switch and cables , but no luck. The only thing that came to my mind was Norton.Since I started with IN I used Norton AV and other Norton products.I know that AV can slowdown booting and shutting down. Before formatting my c drive and than reinstall XP and then try Wideview I wanted to put this on the forum to find out if one of you has any suggestions.Looking at the networkstatus I can see that the server is sending lots of data , but only few is arriving at a client. If they are lost by the hand of Norton or something else I do not know.I have sent an email to Symantec and hope they will respond within 4 days. All suggestions are welcome.happy flying,
January 22, 200422 yr A bit off topic, but do you have any other FSUIPC demanding applications running on that system?I was just wondering how for example PM software can be used from other computers when there are 3 FS instances running on the network?RegardsPeter
January 23, 200422 yr If it is a firewall, it is very likely something is being borked by it.Disconnect the machines from the internet and try without Norton to find it out. Also disable Windows XP built in firewall for testing. Also, if it helps, you should get a dedicated firewall setup so that your LAN is behind it in its own private network and the firewall/router just uses "NAT" to route traffic to the outside world. Then you dont need to run firewalls on the machines on your LAN.I mean:(( internet ))---[ firewall ]-{switch}-[ your LAN machines ]Tuomas
January 23, 200422 yr I agree with Tuomas.I've seen software firewalls cause problems before, and if you are running anti-virus in addition to the firewall try disabling that too, just for kicks... but only one at a time, we want to know what the culprit is.Chris
