Question on Rotary encoders for FSBUS!!

Ok wired a rotary encoder I have yesterday I have attached a pic but it only turns one way I mean if you use it for heading Bug it only turns clockwise, how can you do so it works properlly so it turns both ways?? http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/75388.jpg

Looks to me like you're missing some wires. You need a minimum of 3 wires connected for a rotary to work in both directions, except that yours has 4 pins. Is it an optical rotary perhaps? What kind of encoding does it use?

I doubt you have a "grey" there. It looks like an optical to me with 4 pins.

You're fortunate it's working...Probably (and i mean i'm guessing), central 2 pins are for power, outer two are for actual output.May even be already decoded rotaries, don't know.
